چکیده

This work investigates the effects of different seeding strategies and residence time characteristics on the dynamics of a Mixed Suspension Mixed Product Removal (MSMPR) crystallizer equipped with a fines dissolution unit and applied to continuous preferential enantioselective crystallization. The fines dissolution is included as recycle streams around the MSMPR crystallizer. Moreover, primary heterogeneous and secondary nucleation mechanisms along with size-dependent growth rates are taken into account. A high resolution finite volume scheme is employed for solving the given model. Several numerical case studies are carried out which support the process design and optimization.

Modeling and Simulation of Population Balances for Particulate Processes

This work focuses on the modeling and numerical approximations of population balance equations (PBEs) for the simulation of different phenomena occurring in process engineering. The population balance equation (PBE) is considered to be a statement of continuity. It tracks the change in particle size distribution as particles are born, die, grow or leave a given control volume. In the population...

A Comparative Study of Coupled Preferential Crystallizers for the Efficient Resolution of Conglomerate-Forming Enantiomers

The separation of enantiomers is of great importance due to their possible differences in therapeutic properties. Preferential crystallization in various configurations of coupled batch crystallizers is used as an attractive means to separate the conglomerate-forming enantiomers from racemic mixtures. However, the productivity of such batch processes can be limited by the nucleation of the coun...

Stress-Induced Crystallization of Poly(Trimethylene Terephthalate) Fibers by Molecular Dynamic Simulations

The phenomena of stress-induced (or flow-induced, strain-induced, force-induced) crystallization is characterized by the preferential of orientation of polymer segments along the direction of applied force. Many researches report that the drawing and spinning process would increase the crystallinity of polymeric materials, resulting in oriented segments that would explosively improve the crysta...

River Flow Simulation Using SWAT Physically Based Model in Barandouzchay of Urmia Lake River Basin

Nowadays, there are too many models in the world for simulation of hydrological processes, such as the SWAT physically based model. The SWAT model is a continuous and physically based hydrologic model that is the smallest unit in this model is Hydrologic Response Unit, and all hydrological processes are simulated in each of these units. This model can simulate runoff, sedimentation, erosion and...

Modeling and control of crystal shape in continuous protein crystallization

In this work, a continuous crystallization process with a fines trap is modeled in an effort to produce tetragonal hen-egg-white (HEW) lysozyme crystals with a desired shape distribution. The crystal shape of tetragonal lysozyme crystals is defined by the aspect ratio of the crystal heights in the direction of the (110) and (101) faces. A kinetic Monte Carlo (kMC) simulation is used to model th...
